The Difficulty of Christmas

Keeping the heart of Christmas intact is not easy. Not only are there all of the cultural trappings in place, there are also religious obstacles to keeping the focus of Christmas on Christ. Manger scenes, Christmas eve services, Advent wreaths and candles, serving the hopeless- all good things and intended to help us remember Jesus, but they can also be the very things that prevent us from seeing Christ the way the Bible portrays him. We have lost much of the wonder of the idea that Christ was God in the flesh, an even called the Incarnation. What would it mean for your belief, your theology, your practice of Christianity, your life, if you understood and lived like Jesus was God? The little baby in the manger...God? As history and philosophers have struggled with this idea for centuries we explore the importance of thinking about Christ rightly every Christmas and every day.
