From Blasphemy To Belief
A 2010 survey reports that 90% of Americans believe in God. The big question in that statistic is, "Who is God?" What God are they talking about or believing in? In the Gospel of John we see the issue of who Christ is as being imminently important. Christ continues to push people to make a decision about himself. He purposefully confronts people in their darkest sins or their deepest needs to force them to choose one of two extremes regarding his identity. We want Christ to be safe, to be cuddly, to be loving and are surprised and shocked when he doesn't appear that way in the Scriptures. We must see Jesus the way Scripture presents him and then respond to him with worship and honor and love- or know him as judge. And we must be prepared to stake our lives- our very existence- on this!
