More Than Words 2008 - Part 1

The true account of Mary and Joseph coming to Bethlehem is amazing. They were coming into town to register for the year. An honest man who had worked diligently at his business, under the peculiar blessing of God, could not have been so destitute of money to not be able to pay for comfortable lodging for a night. Joseph had the money for the inn! Had he been so ill fitted for the journey, so incredibly poor, which is not the case, we can safely assume that he would not have brought his wife with him. Mary, being as pregnant as she was when this journey began, was in no state to travel or stay in an animal barn like this without imminent danger. So, it wasn?t that he didn?t have the money. God was telling a story that is beyond the obvious, printed words. So, what if the message of Christmas was a mystery that God was revealing through action and not just words? It would help us see that the entire Christian life is the life of Jesus with God working in all ways, not just the obvious - a life that is more than words! We live in a world that hates the church, questions everything, and is as skeptical as a Chicago Cubs fan! Most people don?t dislike God; they just don?t believe us. Christians are deemed fake and most people are repulsed by anything inauthentic. So, what?s the deal? Why is this what our culture thinks? Simply put, they are looking for people who live by action not just words. Yes, they are looking for something that is MORE THAN WORDS! So, the question we want to ask you this Christmas is the same one you always get asked: What are you going to DO for Christmas? Would you join us this Christmas in our continued attempt to change the world? We are challenging all of our families to do something different this Christmas. Instead of buying our kids a ton of things they don?t need, we are going to give above and beyond our normal giving. Join us in being a people who don't just say we care but show it. Let's all DO something that shows we care. Why? We are MOST LIKE GOD when we GIVE. So, let's journey together in not being typical American consumers. Let's live this Christmas by giving SACRIFICIALLY to and with MORE THAN WORDS.
