Howard Singleton

For several years now I have been going on the opening day South zone dove hunt through a guide/outfitter in El Campo (just south of Wharton approximately 45 minutes south of Sugar Land on Hwy 59). There is a huge number of white wing doves that have moved into the area so that it is like a Mexico/Valley white wing hunt. For those who have not been on one, that means flights of 50-100 birds as opposed to mourning dove usual several birds per group. It is a lot of action and a lot of shooting. If it is like it has been in past years you could limit out by 9 a.m.

We will meet September 23, Friday morning at the Wharton Buc-ee’s in the morning before sunrise and drive as a group to the outfitter’s location. The outfitter then has transportation to take us out into the field and drop us off at our individual spots in the field where we will hunt. The cost of the morning hunt is $100. The hunter is responsible for bringing his own gun, shells and license. If someone cannot take off all day Friday it would be possible to do the morning hunt and be back at work after lunch. Youth are welcome to come too. If they are experienced and qualified to hunt the fee is the same as adults. If they do not bring a gun they can sit next to their dad (learn/be a bird boy) and there is no charge.

If anyone has any questions they can call or email me. Please RSVP as soon as possible so that I will know who will be joining us.
